Our Heritage
Valliant was originally founded in 1953 by James Valliant Sr. as a local parts store for automobiles. Valliant remained a small local store that focused on selling directly to individuals until the mid-1960's when James Valliant Jr. came into the business.
After James Valliant Jr. joined in the business, Valliant began to expand and shifted into warehouse distribution. Wholesale distribution for multiple lines of automobile parts became the new focus and allowed Valliant to reach new heights. This new business model remained until the mid-1990's when Sean Valliant Sr. came into the business.
Sean Valliant Sr. brought his own vision to the company and shaped Valliant into much of what you can see today. Valliant evolved into a Diesel engine and parts business that solely operates in the marine and industrial Detroit Diesel industry since the fall of 1998. With a more specialized focus, this has allowed Valliant to perfect the services that we provide.
From a small local store to what Valliant is today, the Valliant family has always looked for new ways to serve its customers with excellence. Coming from humble beginnings, our location has remained the same throughout our journey. We have added to our building multiple times and have grown into a 15,000 square feet storage facility for parts, cores, and engines.
To this day, our primary focus is still the 71 and 92 series Detroit Diesel engines. However, we still stock new replacement parts, rebuilt sub-assemblies, as well as take request for custom work. We can rebuild engines from 3 to 16 cylinders. We handle nearly all aspects of rebuilding at our facility with the exception of some significant block and crankshaft machine work.
1950s - 1970s
Originally founded in 1953 by James Valliant Sr. as a local parts store for automobiles. Valliant Industries Inc. remained a small local store that focused on selling directly to individuals until the mid-1960’s when James Valliant Jr. came into the business. This marked our shift to the warehouse distribution of multiple automobile part lines. From the start of our story, each generation has brought in new expertise and opportunities for Valliant Industries Inc.
1980s
Penske Corporation and General Motors saw a market opportunity to create diesel engines for use in the many GM brands. This joint venture produced the Detroit Diesel Corporation. Valliant Industries Inc was already warehousing and distributing many of the same part lines that were being used by Detroit Diesel. It was a natural fit for Valliant Industries Inc to carry parts for this new entity.
1990s
During the 1990s wholesale distribution opened the door for Sean Valliant Sr. to bring expertise in service and repair into the Valliant Industries Inc business. Valliant Industries Inc had many of the parts needed to repair diesel engines. Sean Valliant Sr. brought in the direction to start offering repair services utilizing the relationships that Valliant Industries Inc had formed over the years.
2000s
Daimler Chrysler acquires DDC, placing it under the Daimler Trucks of North America umbrella, bringing all commercial divisions together in a new business unit. Valliant Industry Inc focuses on the marine line of diesel products that saw a big investment due to the acquisition. DDC invested over $300 million dollars in this decade to retool its manufacturing facility re-affirming their commitment to engine designs of Detroit Diesel.
2010s
Sean is the third generation to run Valliant Industries, Inc. He stepped into the family business in 1994 and worked alongside his father who ran the company from 1967-2014. A Tulane graduate, he has taken his MBA and sustained and grown the company into a thriving business.
2020s
Valliant Industries Inc. is growing into an international company. Maintenance and rebuild services for diesel marine engines are not prevalent options for customers throughout the world. Our close relationship and proximity to a major U.S. port gives us a tremendous opportunity to help customers across the globe.
